As promised last week I returned to the National Hydrangea Collection here at Darley Abbey, Derby. To recap, the collection was established in the old walled vegetable garden of a rather grand old house that has long since been demolished. The collection was stared many years ago, sadly the local Council neglected its care (lack of funds is the usual excuse). But thanks to one very keen individual who managed to establish teams of volunteers the Collection was again opened to the public last year. So this is its second (new) year and I am pleased to say that all that effort has paid off, the Collection looks grand even though a few more years of growth and care will make a world of difference.
From the blousy and bold to delicate and subdued there is a Hydrangea to suite anyone’s taste…
So take the tour and enjoy…….
There are other National Collections elsewhere in the U.K. and it is pleasing that the Darley Collection, Derbyshire can once again join the best.

Hydrangeas were the primary flower in our daughter’s wedding a week ago! Love them!
