A Sunny Welcome to this Winters Day

15 Lake Dawn

A December dawn over Allestree Lake

No snow or frost to grace this winters morn but it still felt cold. Cold enough for these three characters to hang about the shore line in the hope of being fed….and who can blame them.

Fungi still seem to be flourishing despite the cold….

Do you recall a some time ago I discovered a ‘Secret Pixie Doorway’ in one of the woodland trees….well who ever lives there has entered into the Christmas spirit with some silver bells and a holly wreath….

Silver Birch are amongst my favourite trees, so I was rather disappointed to see that one mature and healthy tree had succumbed to the woodsman’s chainsaw. But the surprise today was this pattern that has started to immerge on the stump….just like a leaf pattern….

It is a shame that it will not grow to become a magnificent Birch like these glowing in this mornings dawn light……

  1. Clearly Mr Oakes you styled your first image on my Lochnabo reflection – lol – seriously the first shot is cracker although i am somewhat concerned that you believe that to be a pixie doorway

    1. It is the ‘Little Folk’ or so I am told…..I have never seen anyone (little or large) near this tree but all year it has been well cared for and the number and door handle well polished….so who knows!! AND another point where has this formal MR. Oakes come from ? I know an ex-military man is formal in his public address but plain David will do nicely….Cheers
