Howden Reservoir, Upper Derwent Valley, Derbyshire
The day did not start with any sign of promise, in fact thick fog blanketed the countryside.
By this afternoon there was still little to really encourage one to head out into the wilds, but we did and headed for the Upper Derwent Valley. A wise decision for as the sun started to drop, and despite a very still windless evening, the fog cleared leaving a near clear sky.

Howden Dam, Upper Derwent Valley, Derbyshire
The low sun cut through the trees lighting up the hill side, where frost was starting to form, with a strange warming glow…
Not bad for Mid- January……A “Perfect End” to a day that originally held no promise.

They are so beautiful, your pictures! Even the moon are reflecting clearly in the water. That’s a thrill to come this close 🙂

Thank you….I did wonder who would be the first to ‘spot’ the moon and its reflection (sorry no prize!!!)

Serenity… is what I feel when watching these photos. The day started here with a very small world because of a thick fog and this one won’t be lifting. For tomorrow it’s hail and sleat and after that back to the Autumn-Spring Winter… as ‘usual’.

Yep…it is all back to windy damp weather.

So lovely! The reflections on the water, especially in the first picture are luminous! What is it about light in the fall that intensifies color? Love these!

We are on the way back to spring…but as we have had hardly any snow and only one frost the autumn colours have endured the winter….so with a warm falling sun we got a bonus.
