The Dark, Dark Woods…

Dark-woods

Who Turned the Lights Out ?

A bright sunny day but head along the woodland track and it was like entering a dark tunnel. OK it would get brighter once ones  eyes adjusted to the change…It did but not by much, despite the best efforts of the filtered sunshine the colours were still muted.

The problem (if indeed there is one) is that we have had a very wet spring and early summer, this combined with overall high temperatures has ensure a lush flush of growth everywhere.

Not only is the canopy extra full but the ground cover is fighting for more space.   The old Oak tree with its tentacle like branches is slowly being swallowed …

In the gloaming  the forest shapes take on different meanings in the imagination….like this Solid Beech Tree trunk…creating a great imitation of a giant elephants foot…

Strong winds, possibly gale force gusts, are forecast for the coming weekend.  This must be a concern were so many branches are bowed over with the extra weight of this seasons growth, damage is very likely.

Meantime we can enjoy a very different feel to our woodland glades
