New Leaves dazzling bright in the morning sunshine…
whilst the Old Oak spreads it branches and enormous canopy of leaves to block out that same sunshine

What an incredible oaktree! We used to have plenty, but these days there are very few left.

In this particular area we have a choice of veteran Oaks. Not sure how old this one is but some of its neighbours have been dated as over 1000 years old. Trunks may look solid (and they are sturdy) but most are now hollow being eaten on the inside by the Oak beetle. I am told that process actually helps keep the alive and live so long.

I guess it is still solid enough to stand a few more winters 🙂
