Quest ….. A Unique Opportunity
A few years ago my Grandson Martin and I were invited to attend a rather unique event. It was a Vintage Steam Boat Rally. All the boats were replicas of larger craft and mostly built by the very proud owners.
Much to Martin’s surprise, Ian Cross the builder of this luxurious and very special Open Canadian Canoe with steam engine amidships, invited him to be skipper for the day.
So without hesitation and after a quick instructional, Martin set of in flotilla convoy with about a dozen other Steam craft.
Martin has now progressed to faster forms of transport and is very much at home lashing arround a race track burning up petrol in a high powered car.
But we still enjoy reflecting on an equally exciting day, travelling at a much more graceful pace, stoking up a steam engine with another form of fossil fuel….coal.

Well the quest may not have been on the standard of climbing Everest …..but is was both exciting and because it was unexpected was twice

Happy memories. When young Martin is trying his hand at formula cars racing, he could maybe beat Max Verstappen. Guess what? I wouldn’t mind at all. Like the people here I prefer the calm chuk chuk sound of a gentle pace. But maybe that has to do with me, growing older..? 😀

Lovely photos – lovely boat!
We had a similar surprise invitation when we were walking along a canal near Bath. It was at the end of the day, and a Canal Boat was heading for home. We chatted with the owner as we walked along beside the boat – and he kindly invited us aboard for a quick trip back to town!

That is a great stretch to cruise or walk…I remember the views over Bath from the tow path
