A Memory….. of Snow.

10pm on the 24th January 2021. This was the first snow of the year. 24 hours later it was all but gone.

This memory came up on my Facebook reminder. It brought to mind just how ‘rare’ snow falls are now in our part of the UK have become. We moved into this house on the 21st January 1979, the snow that day was very much deeper. It had started to snow the previous 1st December, froze and was regularly topped up just about daily till mid March. The Team from the Removal Company had previously struggled up a snow covered Motorway for over 125 miles, then manfully cleared parts of the Drive and carried everything into our new house very carefully….. they deserved and got a big Tip.

43 years on and we have not seen snow like it since. Each year the snow events have been for fewer days and not as deep, then soon melts away. Even frosts are fewer.

I guess in its own little way it is another marker that the climate has and is changing.

I also find it a strange British phenonium that we have a love affair with snow. We anticipate it with love, a thing of beauty….. fun for the first day (maybe two)…. then we cannot wait for it to go.

Whatever the weather, wherever you are……

Lea Rhododendron Gardens

Spring Blooms

Cees suggested that at this dark time of the year we could do a little dreaming and come up with our own topic…. possibly of brighter times to come.

So mine is quite simple –  Without wishing time away….. Hurry up Spring !!!

If you want to add a topic or a dream here is Cee’s Blog link:-

We live in dark times in more than one respect…so as always…

Flippant Friday……. A Home Truth

Well time moves along…. 12th Night has passed and the Christmas Decorations are being packed away, for  what I hope is at least,  another 11 months.

Apart from checking off the Christmas Cards and their messages from friends we also checked off Presents we received….   we are of course grateful for them…….  but we do wonder what those Present’s say about us.

I guess that they rather speak volumes….. Chocolate and Fruits of the Vine!

Now on with the rest of the year…..

New Year…. New Start…. New Hope

Just to be clear……  as yet we haven’t got the joy of a new seasons Snowdrops.  But we do have some green shoots poking out of the cold dark earth. Yippie

Those green shoots bring hope for this New Year.

I do hope that 2022 will start to see life return to something recognisable as more normal.

I also hope that more common sense will arrive with our political leaders around the world and that Peace will be their watchword…..  or is that hoping for too much.

To all on WP, I send my wishes for peace and hope for you and yours.

The message remains the same….

New Year Greetings Everyone….

Goodbye 2021 ……. AND WELCOME TO 2022

At Midnight tonight the 31st December I will lift a glass and toast all friends far and wide….. friends that are local and friends known only over the ether.  All are valuable and add to our daily life.

So if you should sing “Auld Lang Syne”….  listen carefully as you may well hear a not so melodious voice here in Derby. singing along with you.

Good wishes to all and with hope for 2022.

and as always….
