Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria
The rocks are of course very old…much older than man. But ancient man had an affinity with the earth and of course the skies. Castlerigg Stone Circle is a megalithic stone circle created with stones. Why? well historians and archeologist have conflicting theories as to their exact purpose. Some suggestions are an ancient Druid place of worship, others a burial place, then again others suggest its location and alignment is an ancient “Time Clock” to mark seasonal change over the year….or was it just a meeting point?
Whatever it true purpose it is a magical spot, surrounded by mountains, high on the Cumbrian Fells to the south of Keswick.
Just a suggestion for this weeks Black and White Photo Challenge – Rocks.
