Loch Etive, Argyll

From Loch Etive to Port Appin is a stretch of West Highland coast that is distinctive in in its beauty.ย  Access northwards to this part of the Argyll is via the Connel Bridge, itself a tribute to the art and skill of the Victorian Railway construction companies.ย  Today the railway is long gone and the bridge makes way for the road.

Connel Bridge over the tidal Falls of Lora

The coast road runs alongside Lochs with evocative names such Etive, Ardmucknish, Creran, Linnhe.ย  Bays, beaches and boats, hills and seascapes, rocky cliffs and wooded shores, big open skies….villages with Tea Rooms with that Mediterranean feel. You might also find the occasional Red Phone Box now converted into a local library…. even a Castle on its own Island plus there is of course the occasional old croft just ready for conversion to a summer home.ย  Glad we took our home with us…. cannot get much better views to wake to for the 6 days we were here.

    1. The truth is that whilst in past years we have enjoyed sunshine for the most part it was rain. This trip was exceptional for good weather 5 weeks with just two gales, and so little rain it was hardly noticed…… we were very lucky ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Nobody can take this away from you, David. It’s probably a one off but by gum… it’s been fabulous. I am sending this on to a friend. She loves Scotland. Propably will be feeling a wee sad. Right now it’s too expensive for them but I know the time will come she and hubby Chris will be able to ‘do Scotland’ again. As for me… my dear friend is in hospital again and not doing very well. I have been there last May and I knew it was the last time. Hopefully I will be able to see her again but I will be staying at a B&B then. I doubt it however. So I am sad and also grateful at the same time. I will visit Scotland in my own way in the future: by train. A ride around I call it. And I will be open for surprises along the way. ๐Ÿ™‚
