DP Weekly Photo Challenge – Rise/Set

Into-Infinete sundown VIGn ggg

Into Infinity as the sun goes down

The sun sinks below the horizon on a calm sea, the sailing ship heads away under power ready to hoist the sails should a wind appear….

Just an idea for this weeks DP Photo Challenge. See what others have suggested on this link: via Photo Challenge: Rise/Set

  1. Ever read James Mitcherner’s book: Chesapeake? I am just at the point where Matthew Turlock, captain of the Ariel, sinks the Dartmoor with captain Gatch. This is part of the story in that book about the war between England and America about being independent. The writer tells about tropical darkness that comes very sudden. He sees the Schooner, bow heavy, following the clipper Ariel. Turlock wanted his ship to be heavy in the stern. Suddenly, between dark clouds and the black sea with white tops on the waves, the sun is there. Shines over the waves and the schooner seems to be made of gold. All sails up. The writer tells that the schooner, being bow heavy, rises fomr one wave and then buries itself in the next one. Never comes up anymore. Turlock won. Your photo made me think of that story. Looking at it… this one could be Dutch? It’s a lovely picture, sailing into the sunset. This one will fare well…. 🙂

  2. Red, white and blue with red on top? That’s us, David. Or Luxemburg but their blue is lighter. The French have the flag blue white and red. And even then in a sort of vertical blocks. The old flag was Orange, white and blue. The colours with which we fought England during our mutual squabbles in the 17th century. Fun part is: we both fly the tri colore. Also France and Luxemburg do. Red, White and Blue. https://puc.overheid.nl/PUC/Handlers/ToonAfbeelding.ashx?pucid=PUC_41859_10&versienummer=1&bestand=1000005226.jpg
