Silhouette or Shadows
Tina has nominated the topic for this week as Shadows. I guess many of us use shadows to make our pictures without too much thought, not singling shadows out as the main element… but it is the part of the image that gives it shape and dimension. Some times the shadow is the image and the highlights secondary. From Silhouette or maybe a spotlight to creating a solid backdrop, we would be all the poorer for not having shadows in our photographic life

Fab! I spotted Eilean Donan and Castlerigg? And love the shadow and light in the second one – no clue where that is, but I suspect not on this Sceptred Isle!

Some wonderful choices David. I especially loved your B&W trees and the melancholy room at the end.

Thank you….. That room is a dormitory that has been preserved in a Victorian ‘Workhouse’ …. melancholy indeed for the inmates!

The chamber pots look heavy and very large, even before use! Slops revisited!!

Not an experience I would like to experience on a nightly basis. 😞

Wow, David … you have truly outdone yourself with this set! What gorgeous light you’ve captured in all of these images, even if Peter is right that those chamber pots look rather unwieldy.

Ah, love them all, David. I have a soft spot for trees, and your B&W is a favorite. But they all are, really – just wonderful shadows!

That Dormitory always gets comments…. when people enter the actual room they fall very quiet…. it does have atmosphere of times gone 🙂

The room just had that mood….. I guess it could also be a very sombre room 🙂

A lovely collection, David. Perfect for the challenge. I love images that tell stories, so my favorite is your last one. I’m not surprised it has a sad history.
