Can you remember where you were when you heard the horrendous news from New York….. and the event that will always be known as 9/11.
I can … and it was hard to understand just what had happened. Standing in such a tranquil space and bit by bit hearing snippets of news, news that just kept on getting worse…. it was hard to comprehend the enormity of the disaster….. it was just unreal, sadly it was all too true
Lets not forget both the loss of life, the acts of bravery and those scenes of panic and destruction

Yes, I was at the top of the Gavia Pass in Italy, when the marshals told us…..

As an American, this horrific event is permanently etched in my mind. It was one of the most frightening and surreal days of my life. I was on a business trip away from home and I couldn’t wait to get home to my loved ones, especially when I learned a third plane had crashed in a Pennsylvania field not far from our area. My husband and I have visited the memorial there twice and the one in NYC once. The gravity of the sorrow from the loss of life in those spots hits you in an intense way, even all of these many years later. We will never forget.

I was asleep when my husband came home from a 4pm-midnight shift. We sat and watched for hours (I didn’t have to work the next day) and we also chatted online with his brother who was living in Chicago with his wife. They were getting more news from us in Australia than they were from their own news channels.

It was a disaster that was felt across the entire world….. I guess in many ways it was the first that used the ‘new’ media to relay the news and brought it straight to our doors and into our lives.

As it happened, I was in Washington, DC, and we had to scurry to get out fast. Horribly unforgettable!
