The Old Toll House.
For many many years the Toll House were all too familiar on our main roads, estates and bridges. Even our old ‘Drovers’ Roads were blighted by the Toll man, extracting a fee based on mode of transport, passengers and goods.
I did say ‘were’ as the use of these Toll Houses became obsolete as travel and transport became more vital for the country’s economy. Other means of extracting money were introduced for road users…. Road Fund Licenses and Fuel Duties being the obvious ones.
Listen carefully to our Politicians in Government and we may soon see the national return of Tolls. Modern technology will avoid the need for Toll houses…… a silent Tax Collector will ensure we pay our dues.
Progress they say…… not too sure about that – I think we will just end up paying giving the Government more
Whatever we call progress and whatever is in store for us all….

We still have toll roads but the tolls are taken electronically now. No need for a real person to work the toll booth. And I find that a bit sad.

That’s progress….. we still have a few bridges that charge toll…. but the biggest thief is the cities with so called congestion charges. Of course electronically collected.
