Hi, you are right it is a long boat… but in the UK these boats are referred to as ‘narrowboats’. It is on one of the network of canals that covered most of our country, all man made cut by hand and pre-dated the railways by many years. The boats in those days were used to carry cargoes. Usually they had a small cabin in the stern in which the boatman and often his family lived. Today boats like the above, retain the shape but the cargo space is now sumptuous living accommodation for either recreation or for some a permanent home on the water. The boats were narrow as the canals were narrow. Thought you might like the extra info 🙂
