It is not an island Castle…. let me explain.
From this weeks topic list in Cees Challenge, I chose a ‘Reservoir’. The above building is actually a very functional building. It was constructed in the Victorian era (circa 1880) and is located in Lake Vyrnwy (Llyn Efyrnwy) in Powys, Wales. It is a man made lake constructed as a reservoir to supply water for the growing industrial North West of England and Liverpool in particular.
The tower is actually called a ‘straining tower’ and is the essential part of the water extraction equipment for sending water on its long journey to Liverpool.
A vital part of the water system function… but still the Victorians felt it appropriate to disguise the utilitarian nature of the building in an aesthetically pleasing structure …. not sure todays constructions would be so considerate to the eye.

Today, much of the area surrounding the Lake is an important Nature Reserves managed by The R.S.P.B.

We may have great architects today… but when it comes to the daily utility constructions design flair goes out the window.

My, it’s definitely a very lovely tower. I do like the architecture.

I just don’t know why we have abandoned the skill of turning a basic construction into something to be admired and add to the beauty of the location.

I agree. Everything being constructed now looks so uninspired and frankly, boring. Even new churches over here in the USA are mundane looking. They look like an all-purpose warehouse. I don’t call that art or architecture.

Ah yes, how true. I wished to live at its one of tower’s room. Beautiful photograph and place with its view… Sometimes I really become a crazy one, I think of the UK minister and to write a letter for my dream to live in UK as a British one… Yes, There is only one place to live in my dreams. This tower could be nice for me… And be sure every day, every moment I would be taking pictures… I can’t imagine them… Thank you dear David, Love, nia
