The perfect location for this statue to Saint Aidan, in the grounds of Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island, Northumberland.
Aidan was also known as ‘Aidan of Lindisfarne’… and ‘The Apostle of Northumbria’.
Irish by decent, his religious travels suggest he brought Christianity to the Anglo Saxons, working extensively in Northumberland. Aidan is also credited with founding the Cathedral or Priory at Lindisfarne.
There is much written about St. Aidan, and the often violent history of Holy Island, far too much for this page…. There is though a mystery, one thing that doesn’t seem to be recorded… how old was St. Aidan? …. though his death is recorded as being August 651ad.
Have a good day… and as always….

That is sad… it is perhaps one of the most moving and beautiful places in England…a beauty of its own.
