Yesterday we said Goodbye to British Summer Time from now on the daylight hours will get markedly shorter and the nights longer. At least British Summer Time finished on a bright note…..the day dawned with Blue Skies, Sunshine and of course the colours of Autumn. Autumn has still to reach its majestic golden best as there is still much green on the trees giving the woodlands a really fresh feel….it is a scene of Colour, contrasts with the light and shade twinkling across the leaf strewn floor….
One surprise was to discover that Horse Mushrooms were just starting to appear. In a normal year they will have been and gone…and I had been beginning to think that the warm, dry summer had not been good for them. They first appear as a long stalk sporting a round globe on top.
It is not long before this globe flattens out in to a large oval dish, the one below measures about 12″ across. they are indeed big and maybe that is why they have the country name of Horse Mushroom (I don’t have the botanic name – sorry)

Yep….not a bad day to officially finish the summer
AND here is one from the Archives. Taken this day back in 2005 and perhaps a more fitting way to welcome in the darker months ahead……
