Its all a load of Brackets…..Fungi that is! Plus the Return of The Glove?

Bracket-Fungi-2

It has been a summer and autumn that has not matched the traditional time table for events. But it has also been  very productive, we have had bumper crops of fruits and wild berries. Farmers report a bountiful harvest be it grain from the fields or fruit from the orchards.

But one thing has been missing in our small part of the U.K. and that is Fungi.  Normally the woods about us are used for Fungi Foray’s, a chance for experts to show you just where they are and more importantly help you in the difficult task of identification.  But this year there have been hard to find.  That is all but the ‘Bracket Fungi’ and that has enjoying its own bumper year.

They come in all shapes and sizes, some larger than dinner plates others like the one above barely an inch and a half across. Why they should enjoy this season whilst other fungi remain undiscovered I don’t know and perhaps never will……just another of natures oddities in this rather out of kilter year.

The Return of the Gloves

In tune with the seasonal drop in temperature the saga of Lost Gloves has returned.  Followers of this blog will recall that for the past two winters we have found more lost gloves than any Outfitter is ever likely to stock.  But the mystery was that every adult glove found was  left handed whilst the occasional child’s glove was always right handed.   I do wonder if the factors that determined  the seasonal changes we have had this year are now dictating the world of lost gloves!  The first find of this winter is also a first for adult gloves….it is a right hand glove….is this an indicator of the way this season will go?  We will see…….
