We are not big into Cactus, here in the U.K. they are very much an indoor plant. In fact we only have one cacti in our home….but for my wife Jean it is a rather special plant. It was originally a gift from a friend when she was a teenager ( I am not saying how long ago that was….but it was the last century!). It was named ‘Peter’ and I have no idea what its botanical name is. The fleshy green plant goes through various stages of decline and reincarnation as old parts die and new ones sprout from the base. But its ‘crowning glory’ is that every five years, or there abouts, it throws out a long stem with a cluster of trumpet like flowers, red with and orange tinge and sprouting golden stamens. So here we are March 2014 …..another 5 years before we will see this again.
