I was reminded (maybe informed would be a better word) by a Radio News announcement that today is International Dylan Thomas Day.
So in recognition of this very individual and creative Welsh Poet, Writer and some say Raconteurs, I thought that I would show you where much of his literary output was created…… It is Thomas’s Writing Hut. Here preserved in its location above the estuary of the River Taf at Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, in his beloved Wales.
What a magical place and a spot to sit and write…. with the great views over the Taf, I am not sure that I would be able to concentrate on the creative tasks.
A short life (1914-1953) but for Dylan Thomas it was a very productive leaving us with a legacy that is still celebrated today….. may be for many it will be his Story/Play,/Radio Drama/ Film of ‘Under Milk Wood’ that will long be remembered…. and of course those memorable evocative lines….
“Do not go gentle into that good night”
Born in Swansea, powerfully proud of his Welsh heritage, he died in New York, far from home…… but buried in his beloved Laugharne.
If you want a real treat, search out. on your favourite media, the recording of the Radio Play ‘Under Milk Wood’ with a great narration by Richard Burton and a BBC cast of players…. sit back and enjoy.
A P.S. I was unaware of this International Day when I posted my Favourite Location Image last week on the 8th May….if I had known, would have held it back. But like so many of these special International Days they seem to creep up without any advance notice. I wonder what special day tomorrow will be.
