Ancient and Modern

Two of the Bridges crossing the Firth of Forth at Queensferry, north of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The oldest of these two iconic constructions is not quite ancient.  Opened in 1890 for Rail traffic and was for many years the longest span bridge.  Today it looks even more elegant (and solid) in its fairly recent red livery.

The Suspension Bridge in the foreground is the Quensferry Bridge road link across the Firth.  It is was opened in 2017. and is classed as a motorway.

There is a third bridge… in my picture it is hiding between the two bridges that appear more prominent. Named as the Forth Road Bridge. For many, it seems like only yesterday, that  this luxurious road bridge was opened, but was in fact back in 1964.  Much welcomed as it replaced a very long road detour or an equally long wait for one of the Car Ferries  that plied their trade across these tidal waters.

I have travelled over all three bridges many times, each and every time it seems like an adventure, travelling in space above the waters of the Firth of Forth.

Wherever you are this week…. as always…
