Waiting for the Milk Train
Once upon a time the Milk Train was the life-line for farmers, dairies and of course customers. The regular train would pick up the churns, usually twice a day. In the days when refrigeration were not as common or as sophisticated, speed was vital to get fresh milk from farm to bottling and of course to the local milkman.
When one looks back, it is staggering just how much the country relied upon the railways… and not just the main centres but all the outlying country areas. It was a network that really worked.
We may have made progress in so many ways… but I think we lost ‘the baby with the bathwater’ in so many areas.
No matter the past, think to the future and as always….
