
It is not an island Castle…. let me explain.
From this weeks topic list in Cees Challenge, I chose a ‘Reservoir’. The above building is actually a very functional building. It was constructed in the Victorian era (circa 1880) and is located in Lake Vyrnwy (Llyn Efyrnwy) in Powys, Wales. It is a man made lake constructed as a reservoir to supply water for the growing industrial North West of England and Liverpool in particular.
The tower is actually called a ‘straining tower’ and is the essential part of the water extraction equipment for sending water on its long journey to Liverpool.
A vital part of the water system function… but still the Victorians felt it appropriate to disguise the utilitarian nature of the building in an aesthetically pleasing structure …. not sure todays constructions would be so considerate to the eye.

Today, much of the area surrounding the Lake is an important Nature Reserves managed by The R.S.P.B.
