St. Martins Church, Martin Dale nr. Ullswater, Cumbria. The church we see today was built about 1635 and replaced an earlier church that was once on the same site. The Yew tree (a tree common to may old churchyards) to the left of the shot is over 1300 years old. Nestling below the mountains this is a real country church with stone slab floor, a few simple wooden benches and a single bell in the open sided bell tower above the door. Modest it may be but evocative to view.
