Weekly Photo Challenge–Threshold (3)

A Daunting Threshold to cross even at peace…but in times of hostilities the foot soldiers would have found this a very challenging threshold to cross. First a Drawbridge, then a Moat followed by a metal Portcullis and after that a very solid Oak Door.  Get past those, and as they continue to try to secure entry, they would be subject to boiling pitch and water from the ‘Murder Holes’ above the enclosed entry….all that of course on top of the arrows and spears reigning down from the Battlements.  And that was just the first line of  the Castles defences.
