Torrential overnight rain and a dramatic rise in temperature to 8C acted ‘like magic’ on yesterdays heavy snows. A very different scene this morning with hardly a scrap of snow to be seen….
But whilst the snow may well have gone there is still large areas of the lake covered in ice. The sudden thaw has resulted in snow melt cascading down to the lake and filling all available gullies and ditches……
Nor did the heavy snows leave us unscathed, several of the larger pine and cypress trees, trees that retain a good canopy of foliage over the winter, have shed branches unable to support the weight of the heavy snows……
There are other reminders of the past week……
” I was once a Snowman! and someone loved me“
“I am glad I never was a real Turtle having to stand here in this icy pond!”
This Mute Swan was actually playing with this discarded drinks bottle
But is that the first signs of new life appearing through the ice…..
……..I wonder? Not too sure, well this most certainly is new growth…….
Fresh green shoots of woodland Daffodils….the first REAL signs of Spring!

I heard that the authorities in England had asked people to build snowmen, thus preventing flooding in rural areas. Packed snow melts slower . . .!
But it looks to have melted pretty quick anyhow?!

Not sure it really works. As you see the snow has gone. Trouble is the temperature is dropping as evening approaches and those snowmen by the roadside or where people had built piles of snow from their drives has been melting slowly and wetting the roads and paths which are now freezing. Where the snow had cleared under its own power it had dried and is perfectly clear!

Hi David, Just a little comment about your post today. Do you ever look at your posts after you’ve saved them as a Draft, just to make sure everything is okay? This post has a few image layout problems…..at least in my Firefox 18 browser!
PS: Love the top pic, almost a painterly sign of spring. Cheers to you from the sunny south! 🙂

Yep I do…. but still miss the odd typo. As to layout that is interesting, as apart from on small mobile devices such as phones, the layout in draft in Word Life Writer seems so transfer into the draft page of WordPress just fine. Until 8 weeks ago I used Internet Explorer as my browser. For various reasons changed to Opera (after a flirtation with Chrome) and it seems to transfer O.K.. I am guessing from your comments that it is perhaps where I have dropped text beside an image….if that is so I will try to leave more ‘breathing’ space between text and image. I still think that these off the shelf layouts work incredibly well when they have to cover so many peoples varied inputs.

WordPress is geared to show best on Firefox. I guess you’re a Mac user. I think Firefox can also be used on a Mac, but check out mozilla.org, Firefox manufacturer, for that sort of info. Personally, I think you’d be better off creating a gallery post, with your text for each image within the Description field of that image. Anyway, have an exploratory and do a test draft post to see what you think. I’m always thinkin’ about you……cheers! 🙂

We have so much snow in our yard, it is over a meter deep in accumulation. That’s ok, we really need the snowpack for water, but it sure makes for messy driving. Nice shots.
