Yesterday the weather gave us a surprise bonus in the form of a beautifully sunny day, blue skies and no wind….so we headed off to Chatsworth House in the expectation of enjoying an invigorating walk through autumnal colours…….
And the gardens and woodland did not disappoint…But that is where we also received our second Bonus of the day!…..
Look closely and you will see a strange object in the woods….it certainly was attracting much attention from visitors and whilst eavesdropping it also enjoyed many complimentary remarks. Well let me give you a closer look…..
It is called ‘The Lens’ and is the work of Unus Safardiar. It is not made of glass but acrylic. The engraving and the natural features of a lens reflect and change with the light and your viewing position. I hope my image can convey something of the experience in this 2 dimensional image.
It is one of 20 Monumental Sculptures by twenty international sculptors, that are displayed at Chatsworth for a brief Selling Exhibition called ‘Beyond Limits’ staged by Chatsworth House and the famous Art Dealers Sotheby’s.
So our autumnal walk expanded into a tour of a spectacular outdoor exhibition. Well worth playing hooky from the daily chores. But as always you have to catch up with daily life so I will bring you more of Autumn at Chatsworth and the Sculptures in the next post.
