No matter what so called conservationists proclaim to the contrary…The Sycamore Tree is very much apart of our British Woodlands and I for one would wish it no other way. From its spritely green leaf in spring through to the browns and gold’s of autumn they add to the ambience of the woods. Once the leaves have dropped the tall trunks, with their dark green sheen, wave in the lightest of breezes and add even more character to a winter woodland.

wicked colour especially against that backdrop

We love our sycamores, too, but their fall colors were far more bland this year (and last) than they were two years ago. I say “were,” because they have already shed nearly all their leaves. Very nice portrait of this single leaf. They do have such character!

It is now a case of ‘were’ here as well. One day they are there next on the floor. Even today the 25th many of our Oak’s still have plenty of green leaves by now they should be dry and brown. The benefit from my point of view of this late autumn has been that the sun has been much lower able to spread its light across the forest better whilst the golden leaves remained on the trees so heightening those autumnal colours. If winter starts later than usual does that mean it will last longer?!
