Winter…….It does “Tease us So”

Sun-through-the-Birch

We had our first real frost of the winter and temperatures dropped to –2c….so you might say that isn’t that bad for January.  The skies remained clear and the sun cut through the Birch on the hill.  The valley held onto the frost for awhile but as you can see it was only a ground frost, no spectacular crystal displays on the trees……

Rhodendron-Bud

Whilst the Rhododendron Bud above would not be flowering in the coming spring, the Pine Cone atop the tip of this Scots Pine was immune from the frost and relishing the suns warmth…..

No time to linger today so it was back to the Office.  But that was no hardship with this little Dunnock (Hedge Sparrow) singing loudly outside my window.  So maybe he knows that spring is on the way…… or may be he is in for a sharp surprise (like all of us) if winter does visit us with it usual attributes!

  1. That’s not winter, David. Not really !!! 😀
After a week with temperatures around minus 15 degrees, we finally got snow.
At least 60 cm over one day alone. All mountain passes closed! At least 80 trailers pulled off the road and dozens of car accidents all over the place. The winter is here!

    1. Well I did say that it was teasing us. But after our ever so mild winter (so far) -2c did seem VERY cold. But can I suggest that you hang on to the winter over there. Best wishes

  2. Love your still life of the frosty rhododendron bud, and I can’t imagine a more eloquent portrait of the Dunnock than yours. It doesn’t seem that this modicum of winter that you’ve been having will upset the normal balance very much. I’m confident that you and your local flora will ride out the mini-storm.

    1. It is at times hard to be sure if we should be pleased that the winter has been so ‘kind’ to us or fearful of what might yet come our way at the wrong time in the cycle of life……the only sure thing is that we can do nothing about it but wait and see.

  3. FAB photos again. Thank you Each day, I enjoy photos from England. It makes me feel better. 😀

I watched Winter Watch on BBC 2 last night and heard about the possibility that it will be like this all winter. Looking outisde into a cold and grey dampness, I would prefer nice frosty weather with some sunshine, not so much wind. But the forecast is we may get some ice on the roads in the North and some sleat and hail with now and then a clap of thunder in the rest of the country. I doubt that I will notice that, living in the South West, just North of Rotterdam.

By the way, I am not a sportsfan. Far from it, but the DUtch will win in Sotsji. Mark my words… 😀 😀
I do hope, and this is serious: no problems from crazy people and great and FAIR Games for everyone that loves them.
