Orchids have a reputation for being a delicate and fragile plant, hard to rear. But the variety that we enjoy as houseplants seem to be an extra sturdy species. There is not a month when we are not graced by the splendour of their blooms….and we only have three plants. Certainly, some months, it may only be the odd flower head. As Easter approaches they seem to have some extra vigour and present us with cascades of colour……..

Beautiful. I love orchids. I have 5 plants but only one seems to keep re-blooming. The first three blooms it had 1 flower stem. This time it has 2. It hasn’t bloomed yet but I would expect it to bloom within the next month. The other 4 seem to keep growing new leaves, but so far no flowers.

It was a few years before we were put on the right track (and forgive me if you already know this). But the pot should be transparent and allow light to get to the roots. Perhaps more importantly they like to be a tight fit in their pots…we were told always resist the urge to re-pot. Seems to work for us even though we sometimes worry once a stem has a multitude of flowers then dies back…but then another stem is produced. there are even times when we think a stem has died only to be surprised when buds start to form, swell then flower as if to say ‘leave me alone-I can look after myself!’

They obviously like what you’re doing with them–keep it up!

These are so beautiful, David! I guess the micro-environment is most suitable for them too. 🙂

You are probably right…the climate in our house must be just right! Not that we have done anything special, well not knowingly!
