Old Country Folklore – and Storms

Sunset-16-b

There is an Old Country Rhyme that goes like this….

Red Sky at Night Shepherds Delight….

Red Sky in the morning Shepherds warning.

You can substitute Sailor for Shepherd….but you get the drift!

Well the Red sky above was Friday nights sky and perhaps rather than being a Shepherds Delight it looked to me more like the approach of Armageddon.  For a time yesterday I thought I had been correct in my judgement.  Saturday we woke to dark grey skies, heavy rain, dire weather warnings of Storms and Thunder with massive Lightening displays promised.  So Saturday we had these storms reaping havoc over the U.K.  The worst hit us at 5pm and lasted about 2 hours…thankfully for us no damage…for others floods, thunderbolts and wind damage was left in its wake.  Thankfully today is very much calmer.

So much for ‘folklore’

  1. I love the juxtaposition of subjects in this image and an amazing sky! Yes, we in Australia know that same ditty, but often a red sky at night means there are bushfires burning and the suns rays are reflecting off the smoke layers 🙂
