Enter the Walled Garden

Garden-Gate-3

I am not usually envious of peoples processions and life styles but would admit a degree of lust for a Walled Garden like that of our ancestors…..I would of course also need their wealth to employ the gardening staff to maintain it.  So join us as we explore a part of the Walled garden at Calke Abbey, Derbyshire.  It is a garden that is both Floral Formal for relaxing…….

Formal-garden-2

and a Practical Vegetable and Fruit garden to support the Estate House, its guests and the staff…..

Scarecrow-and-Cabbages

Enjoy the flowers, the vegetables, the nooks and crannies and the potting shed and tool store….reminders of a days gone bye and a life style no longer viable….

A-Doze-under-the-Appletree

May be take a pause and just doze under the apple tree’s…..

Calke Abbey, Derbyshire is now in the care of the National Trust.  Maybe we should all take the advice of their welcome sign…

  1. Ah yes, to have a walled garden. Truly a garden from a bygone era. Beautiful images, thank you David.
