Castlerigg Stone Circle above Keswick, Cumbria
Although some today cast doubt on its reason for being constructed in this location and its purpose, it is accepted as being an early Megalithic construction.
Most widely help believes are that it was an important Druid place of worship. Maybe its alignment to catch both the summer and winter solstice’s is the best clue.
The other indisputable fact is that it is superbly located….. nestling on a high(ish) plateau amongst the even higher Cumbrian Fells.
A very popular well visited spot by Tourists throughout the year, solstice or not, and who can blame them it just a magical place.
