Rosedale Moor, North Yorkshire
High on the North Yorkshire Moors you can find a great many ancient stone crosses, many going back over countless centuries. But this cross is much more modern. It is the War Memorial for the small village and surrounds of Rosedale Abbey that nestles in the valley below. A memorial that in my view has been erected with past history very much in mind….and a place for contemplation.

Love the North Yorkshire landscape. There’s something profoundly freeing about the wide open spaces and the skies. Beautiful shot.

Thank you…… The Moors can be wild and can be rather benign but always presents a feeling of space and freedom. There very own world within a world 🙂

You are correct. There is (if I recall correctly) a chimney which instead of standing tall like near the industrial mills actually lies on its side. As for the Abbey…well there are just a few bits of stonework still showing but nothing like what we imagine an abbey ruins to be like. 🙂

My memory is suffering from overload and like the computers RAM…. Its contents are random, access is restricted and memory full 🙂
