Not a true Macro shot, and not a shot that was planned. The tiny Blue Butterfly landed on the Ivy next to me yesterday. It is no surprise that it is known as a Small Blue, it lives up to its name by being only about 25mm in size. Nor is it a regular visitor to our garden or even in our locality…. so it was, let’s say, a BIG surprise.
I did have my camera with me. I had to take a quick shot. It had to be quick shot, no time to change lens. With a hyperactive Butterfly, constantly moving and constantly shivering (the fur like under edge of the wings vibrating) it had to be quick – one shot and gone.
So, there you have it, my submission for Cees Midweek Challenge on Close-up or Maro.

We are seeing a lot this year too. You did well to capture the shot, they move so quickly!

Yes, there does seem to be more, and they do move fast, even when on a leaf they never seem to really settle, always a quiver. On yesterday’s walk I spotted at least 4. Nearly tempted to say that I have seen more Blues this spring than any other Butterfly…. encouraging 🙂

And here too. I have never seen so many, and very well advanced they are!
