Does anyone write REAL letters anymore ?
Gone are the days of waiting for the Postman, opening the letters and reading family or business news.
Not sure that ‘ping’ from the computer telling you that ‘New Mail’ has arrived, and arriving on a 24 hour basis, is as fulfilling. Emails that seem to demand that you reply at once…. even if an immediate reply isn’t needed. Emails certainly seemed to have changed the operational gear of communications.
Maybe getting the writing paper out, finding your pen, gave us more time to digest the mail and consider our response. Letters, business or family conveyed news. News, that by todays instant email standard, would no doubt be considered old news.
But hand written personal correspondence did seem just that… personal, and for some messages, also very precious. Letters form our past history, saved and stored, they tell stories, some famous correspondence displayed in museums…. not sure email print outs, even if signed with an Emoji, are quite the same.
Writing or typing…. the message is the same as always….

I do! I have always written handwritten cards, notes and letters and love to do so

We hand write cards…yes we still send them even in this digital era.The only other paper item that gets a signature are legal documents.

I miss writing a letter, with paper and with pen… and using post office… And waiting for the reply… These are almost nostalgia now… I am still in old mind in this kind of things, even I love horse carriages too… And keeping the stamps, ah these stamps from different countries… Dear David, you almost took me in old days in my memories, Thank you, Love, nia

It was.also the joy of receiving personal letters… pleased you and your friends are keeping with tradition. As for horse transport, without sounding flippant if the climate change demands continue to be challenging we will all be using horse power. Yes.. not all progress has been good for our souls.

Your post really resonated with me because I love getting letters in the mail and truly miss that. Email just does not suffice for me. I do have a long-distance friend who I exchange hand-written letters a few times a year and I love receiving those from her. We still send Christmas cards and I always write a letter in those. But I would be thrilled to receive more personal letters because they mean so much. Back in our early married life, my husband was in the military stationed in Korea. I still have every letter we wrote to one another. Of course, someone will probably throw them away some day but for me they are treasures.

An email works so fast and easily it’s hard to write a letter that takes days to get to the recipient. I do write some letters with pen and paper, but I’m more likely to print a letter out from a computer file. That noted, I still love a personal handwritten letter from family or friend!

I guess that’s probably true for the majority of us. We call it progress, but still look over our shoulders with a touch of nostalgia.
