Originally a Vagrancy Act sign of 1824
Somethings in life never seem to change. Judging by our local city.. beggars, vagrants, homeless – call them what you want, but the numbers certainly seem to have increased over the past few years.
I haven’t any answers and we do need to find some solutions.
So I guess we need as always to….

I feel like more people have undressed mental health, addiction and poverty issues and are struggling

Far too many people fall through the cracks. Now our Council want to fine and arrest …where are they going to get the money to pay and maybe a few nights on custody may be a respite. Its not the answer

yes, I agree. they need instead to find a way to support and help the people who are struggling in my opinion.

It’s a problem here too and no one seems to be able to find suitable and humane solutions. I do agree that there are more folks on the streets with addictions and mental health issues. I’ve been told that many of them turn down help. Makes me sad.

That is true… some folk do decline help/support. But many other struggle to get the help they need. It is not a life choice for far too many. Our City Council are now considering the reintroduction of Fines for those ‘Rough Sleeping and begging. If they have no money, how do they pay fines…. arrest them and take them into custardy ? at least they would be fed and have a roof. Our society is so un-balanced at both ends of the scale. What makes matters much worse is the lack of humanity and kindness to each other.
