A Sad & Personal Memory…

The view is from our Hotel Window in Isla, Cantabria, Spain. It was taken 2 years ago to this day, just before 7am. It was also when my Wife Jean collapsed.

Despite the very fast response from two teams of Paramedics and a Doctor, at 7.35am Jean was pronounce dead… a Cerebral Hemorrhage. No warning, no concerns, then all over. Despite my lack of Spanish and theirs of English, their compassion and concern by the Medics, was very real and equally as sincere, their support welcomed.

Being so far way from home, with so much to unexpectedly arrange (not even sure what), people to contact and local paperwork to complete, auto pilot kicked in, there was no time that day to grieve… with hindsight I guess that was possibly a good thing… just get on and do what you have to, after all there was no alternative. I am so grateful for all the help so generously given by those in Spain and our Tour Guide. I couldn’t have managed without it…but it was only late that evening, that it hit home….that I hadn’t had private time to say goodbye…. that was when the reality hit home.

Since then, 2 years on, there have been lots of time to reflect and grieve, time to share memories and to celebrate Jeans life. They say time heals… it doesn’t, but friendships and talking does…. nor at times does it seem like 2 years ago.

I selected the above image as Jean and I had been standing on our balcony looking at this view, commenting on what looked like another great day, talking of what was on the days itinerary. We stepped back into the bedroom and that wonderful holiday, in one brief instant, came to an end…. so a very poignant memory. in time and fate.

I have always ended my blogs with a byline, a message …. maybe today that message may seem impossible to fulfil…but please try, you never do know what is waiting for you….. so as always….
