“The Victorians approach to Climate Challenges”
6 Words for this weeks 6WS Challenge. 6 Words for Debbie’s Challenge…the link to our hosts Blog is here:- https://travelwithintent.com/
Thought that I would add a story to this weeks 6WS.
As we face up to todays Climate Changes and an increasingly warmer planet, the Victorians had other climate related challenges.
There approach was more exotic plant related. How to create a climate in which plants from far off counties could be grown here in the colder and very seasonably changeable UK. The answer was to build Glass Houses to create the right warmth and protection.
Its introduce such plants as Angles Trumpets (Brugmansia) and the exotic Bird of Paradise ( Strecitzia)

The dramatic King Protea (Cynaroides) must have appeared unreal and very exotic..

The variety of Palms, Cacti and Fruits was enormous, big challenges for the Horticulturalist, often spurred on by Wealthy Landowners wanting to add to their Estates attraction. Some where large creations, as can be found at Kew Gardens, London… others just little more simple in constructions on Private Estates… others like this Glass House at Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens have brought the exotic to the wider population

Saturday… the weekend. Maybe time to visit one of the many Victorian legacies dotted arround the UK. But whatever your pleasure, enjoy and as always….
