It REALLY did Feel………as if Spring had Arrived

Dawn-6.4.14

Dawn,  a clear sky and a sun rising much more quickly than over recent months, welcomes in the day…..even a hint of warmth that gives a real impression that spring is very much on its way.  The morning light through the woods whilst warming, still created in part a touch of  that stark wintery look….

But as the minutes ticked by the warmth soon gave an added sparkle to the day…

The Brambles were the real winners this winter, the mild temperatures has seen its growth continue at a pace ,in places it is now swamping the bracken….

But the real signs across the woodland are the green fresh shoots of the Daffodils. Whilst many gardens now sport a good display, the ‘naturalised’ Daffodils have still to sport their yellow trumpets…but the fresh leaves give a hint of the yellow carpets still to come…..

Unlike Daffodils, Crocus are not a native woodland plant so to find a clump hidden under bushes thrusting their way through the leafy carpet is a bonus……maybe a Squirrel buried a bulb and over the years they have multiplied, not sure birds will have been responsible but maybe it is humans who thought to mark a special spot…who knows?

Woodland-Crocus-6.4.14Yep, a great start to a day that has that fresh warm feel, a sun that is warming the woodlands and generating that healthy smell of decaying leaves and new growth…a feeling that Spring REALLY is here.  Not even the rather pessimistic  advance weather forecast for the weekend can dampen todays feeling.  We will worry about tomorrow when it comes.
