Moody Monday…… well maybe not

Disc One

Mid Summer, Isle of Skye, North West Scotland

Just before midnight yesterday, we crossed the Summer Solstice… so you might say that today is the first day of the rest of this year.

Yesterday, in anticipation of the Solstice, I posted an mid summers eve picture, shot 2 years ago.  So as we can still celebrate the Solstice, todays image is one shot on mid summers eve some 6 years earlier.

The loan fisherman and I had stood silent, just watching the sun vanish beyond the horizon, waiting for midnight.  Despite the midges it was a magical moment.  I suspect that the afterglow remained to be subsumed by the dawn that would soon follow.  After all Scotland may not be the land of the midnight sun…..  but certainly the next best thing.  Not that I waited for the dawn…. sleep beckoned.

Summer Solstice

Mid summer….  the official time scale for the UK is, today the 20th June at 11.32pm.

Hard to think at times, that half the year has already vanished….. and just think, its now all down hill to Christmas.

Always found it strange that summer, has in reality only just begun, and officially its Mid summer with the best of summer yet to come.

Good Morning….. a new day post Solstice

Barns-Ness dd

Dawn at Barns Ness,  Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland

A rather fiery sunrise on the East Coast of the Scottish Borders.  Barns Ness Lighthouse has stood guard over this  stretch of the North Sea coast for many years.  Duties done for the night it is ready to welcome the first morning after the Summer Solstice.

No doubt all over the world, people will have been celebrating  the arrival of the solstice sunrise on mid summers day.

Summer Solstice……..

Arctic-Circle-sunset

Sundown, Mid Summer, above the Arctic Circle north of Iceland

Today,  here in the UK, at precisely 21.44  on the  the 20th June, it is the Summer Solstice 2020.  Mid  summer already.  Yep, despite all the trauma of the year to date the solstice has come round again, and all far too quickly…… I must work out just where all this time has vanished to.

To celebrate the passing of the Solstice, and as the time does vary a little over the world, I might just welcome you tomorrow  with a Sunrise
