A visit to town on business had a bonus element… I made a detour to one of my favourite places in the City, today with folk flocking to the retail centre, this was a tranquil location.
It is Derby Cathedral…

Founded in 943 and originally named All Saints Church, becoming a Cathedral in 1927.
I love the interior. Compared with many of its counterparts it has a very contemporary look and feel… a welcoming interior. Like many other Cathedrals it has moved with the times and now blends regular Concerts, Film Shows and Exhibitions, whilst still being a full functions Cathedral…. I feel sure these extra activities help fund the upkeep of the building and out reach services.
There are many Royal and Notable Dignitaries Tombs and memorials…. but one seemed to stand out on todays visit…

Florence Nightingale, credit with being the founder of the Nursing Profession. I wonder what her thoughts would be for todays Nurses working in our over stretched NHS?
On a busy day in town… a very welcome destination for peace and tranquillity.
