6WS – 6 Word Saturday Challenge…… There are times when Size Matters

There are times when Size Matters

6 Words for this Saturdays Challenge

There are times when size really does matter.  Take the little book on the right (the one on the left is a standard paperback)… its is not a novelty, but the very real answer to a Wartime problem. During WW2. paper was short, rationed for essential publications.  But some publishers used their restricted supply creatively.

Raphael Tuck and Sons, the Greeting and Postcard Publishers, created a series of tiny Children’s Story Books.

Measuring 3.5 inches, a soft cover and utility paper, they created a miniature  Children’s Library….

31 Better Little Books were published in the series, some of the books were related to the war time era, but mostly traditional children’s stories, some specially commissioned.

Just goes to prove that in difficult times, solutions can be found for the simplest  of needs.

( I should add that the inspiration for this post was a Radio debate I heard this week.  The debate was between those who liked ‘real’ books and those who preferred electronic books. One debater suggested that books were a waste of paper and the energy – you can make your own minds up about that

Just another idea for Debbie’s 6 Word Saturday Challenge.  Here is the link to Debbie’s Blog :-https://travelwithintent.com/

It is the weekend, maybe you are planning to relax with a book, enjoy and as always…
