The Leaving of Lerwick….
We have only visited the Shetlands once…. and what a memorable time it was.
Shetland weather was mixed, the locations visited, both ancient and modern, stimulating and the people fun and friendly. Shetland and Lerwick were indeed a highlight in an extended trip.
As we sailed away in the late evening, light, the view back to Lerwick and its surrounds was spectacular. It was though touched with that sadness that accompanies the realisation that something special had come to an end. Memories had been made, but all too soon we would be home in a quite different environment, geared to a faster pace.
Also, that sadness, that fate may dictate that we may not return. Then, that sadness deepened as the evening sun shone a spotlight on Lerwick’s Cemetery perched on the headland above the Bressay Sound.
A moment for a poignant thought…. Some Shelanders had gone but would never leave.
Travelling, or at Home or the Workplace… as always….
