Down South……

The Lizard

The most southerly point on the English Coastline……  No, its not Lands End, which sadly is now a Tourist Theme Park.  This is Lizard Point on the very tip of Cornwall’s Lizard  Peninsula. The Peninsula has to be one of my favorite areas of Cornwall.  Surrounded by sea on 3 sides, on occasions lashed by Atlantic storms, but also capturing some of the warmth that drifts across from Europe and of course the Gulf Stream, it has created a very diverse and rich habitat, rich in flora.

It reaches its climax at its most southerly tip of England, Lizard Point.  A rugged section of coast jutting out into the English Channel.  Surrounded by rocky outcrops with such names as Mulvin, The Quadrant, Man of War, Enoch Rock, The Dales and Clidgas Rocks.  Over the centuries a hazard to shipping. Understandably sheltering at the base of the cliffs is a Lifeboat Station.

A reminder that beauty can hide a multitude of dangers

Don’t put yourself in danger….

Clear Sky…… on Skye

DOI_5055_00065aaa

Clear skies over the Isle of Skye.  A rare autumn morning on this enchanting Scottish Island……  Early morning mist rising from Loch Greshornish and the prospects of a rather fine day……   and it was.  Memories

The Palace of the Peak….

CHATSWORTH-H-17

Autumn comes to Chatsworth House, Derbyshire.  Rightly dubbed the Palace of the Peak.  Another description is that of a House in the Landscape.  Easy to see why, a magnificent House in a magnificent setting, sandwiched between Woodlands and the River Derwent.

Wordless Wednesday…. A Favourite Place

Location:-  Loch Dughaill, Strath Carron, North West Highlands of Scotland.

Often overlooked by travellers.  Along a narrow but vital cross country road and rail link, both from West to East, but also to the very North West of Scotland.

Butter wouldn’t Melt…..

Cumbria-9-7-_297

Buttermere…   always loved that name for this Cumbrian Lakeland expanse of water.  Nestling below a ring of mountains Buttermere never disappoints.  Lake side walks, tracks to the very tops, woodland shores to rest and picnic.

But this view, across Buttermere, towards Fleetwith Pike and Honister Pass is my favorite. I wish I was there.

Where ever you are…..
