Exploration of the oceans…… depicted here by the larger than life sculptures of Portugal’s Ocean navigators. This remarkable tribute to those ancient mariners, who set off with just an idea and a blank piece of paper on which to chart their journeys into the unknown, can be found at the foot of Belem Tower on the waterfront at Lisbon, Portugal capital city.

In the Portugal’s Maritime Museum you can find this decorative chart that plots the journeys made over a largely undiscovered world… all with just the stars to guide them.

Belem Tower makes a powerful and dramatic statement in its own right as it stand high above the River Tagus… and a fitting tribute to Portugal’s brave explorers.
( A P.S. I was messaged that i failed to mention the Explorer’s, apologies for the omission. You will know these names – Ferdinand Magellan, Vasco de Gama, Christopher Columbus and the appropriately named Henry the Navigator). There are many more)

Wherever you are in this world, at home or away, on your own adventure….
As always…..
