…….. Up the Creek

SKIPPOOL-0037gg

Dawn…. the high spring tide creeps soundlessly, over the marshes and up each narrow creek here at Skippool Creek on the River Wyre Estuary, Lancashire.

Peaceful…and if I recall correctly, only the call of the Curlew echoing across the water.

A High Spring Tide…………

SKIPPOOL-0080bb

Dawn over Skippool Marsh after a Full Moon bringing in a Spring Tide.

Skippool, now a leisurely peaceful backwater on the River Wyre in Lancashire.  The Wyre flows down from the Lancashire Fells at Bowland, then on into Morecambe Bay at Fleetwood.

Hard to visualise in todays world that once Skippool, Paulton and Wardley’s Creek all on this short stretch of the  River Wyre, were once important departure ports to the Americas and beyond.

It is a great spot for Bird Watchers and of course a place for those who just want to while away some time in peace.

But in todays troubled world it will be even quieter,  only the call of the Waders, Curlew and Gulls providing a background soundtrack
