Following quickly on the heals of the Daffodils and Tulips we have another Spring entry, that of the Snowflake…..well that is what we have always called them (though I think the ‘proper’ name is Leucojum – but what variety I do not know).
Now don’t confuse with their much earlier flowering cousins the Snowdrops. Snowflakes are very much a bigger species, standing some 30 to 40cm high on broad stiff stems, they carry heads of multi flowers. Like Snowdrops they are a season bulb that throws out its growth for a brief few weeks then sinks back to sleep till the next Spring.
