Spring is certainly starting to dazzle us in the garden and even this morning in the woods there was a warm glow through the Birch and Sycamore to welcome in Monday….
But it is still early for spring to show its full hand. Indeed last year we were under snow and ‘enjoying’ record cold March that didn’t ease till April was well underway. The first of the Woodland Spring flowers, the Snowdrops, are now starting to fade but still able to put on a show……….
Daffodils are next on the menu to delight us. Unlike the sheltered garden Daffodils which are now bunched together brashly brandishing their trumpets, in the woods they are still very much ‘in the green’ with only the occasional yellow signal of the feast to come….
But there is no doubting the rising warmth in the air….this cushion of early purple Heather is now in full bloom and doing its job,now busy with scores of Bees seeking out fresh nectar after their drowsy winter slumbers………
But winters ravishes are still easily found throughout the woods. Fallen branches having fallen fowl to the high winds, whilst a long abandoned gate post green with algae and moss bares testament to the wet in months just gone……
But the surest sign that spring is here are the birds, their song is now all around and as they cosy up to each other some feathers do fly……

I enjoyed the pop of color David! We are just now starting to see grass…so much snow, that is still melting! Happy Spring!

Nah, I think it’s just on time, David. Global warming is a fact, but the reason is debatable. We are definitely moving into warmer times, but for how long and to what degree, I don’t think anybody has a good answer. We can only move with the flow . . .

Not sure I understand this Global Warming situation. I believe it is happening and that it is cyclical and a long term change. But the weather we are enjoying doesn’t reflect that. This week last year we had record low temperatures for March -10dC and the month was the second coldest on record. That followed a very cold winter which in turn followed the previous winter which was dubbed the coldest on record. Add to that that the Magnetic north has shifted further than expected which must have an add on effect to weather. So this year we have had a very mild but wet winter and a spring that is coming at a rush. Last year spring was so late it merged into summer and was so quick it was over in a flash. So who knows what next
