It has been rather dark and very wet over the past few days. But the Beech trees are still managing to add colour to these dark days.
The wind has stripped the leaves of most of the other woodland trees and now with no protective canopy the trunks are running with water..

The damp has produced one benefit for Fungi lovers. At long last the fungi is bursting forth, several months late this year..
The bad weather has driven most of the wildlife into temporary hiding and one cannot blame them for taking shelter….down by the lake a lone young Black Headed Gull seems to have been abandoned by the flock, but he’s staying put …

After our extended summer and late autumn we should not complain about this wet and windy weather…but we no doubt will. No sure how long it will continue but the forecasters are predicting that the jet stream is now heading northward away into the North Atlantic and this should draw in some more warm weather from the south.
We will see.

Meantime the outlook is rather grey.

It is for most of the year rather unspectacular….but on a dark day and in golden leaf it comes into its own.

Strange! Referring to you beech, – I do have a near identical picture – but wit a birch tree – taken a few years back at the Drammen River. I do think it was published as well, so you might in fact have seen it some time?
But – it was a fantstic beech never-the-less. Thanks!

I have shot this Beech on other occasions when it has been in either spring leaf or autumn gold….I am sure you will have seen them in the past 🙂

On my way, this morning, in the glorious sunshine but with a rather fierce and cold N.E. wind, I could see the birches in their silver bodies standing in many a garden. I love this tree. In the summer she filders the sunlight and paints all sort of strange figures on the gound with the help of the breeze. In Winter she shows her silver body and with the sunshine she can be seen from a long distance.
What she cannot do, however, is showing the many colours of gold, bronze and copper as your beech shows. They are both magnificent to me. 🙂

Do not ask me for my favourite tree…there are too many and of course it does depend upon the season 🙂

Some beautiful shots…the first with the reflection and the leaves above and below is stunning. I liked your observation about water running down the tree trunks unprotected by a canopy. Icey over here with prospects of some above zero weather coming up.
